instead of sitting around, watching tv and playing video games over the weekend, my baby and i met up with the younger bro in the wilderness of Ohiopyle State Park. i have to say, it was one of the best weekends i’ve had in a long time. it felt great being outside, camping and messing around in the great outdoors.
although we missed the white water adventure Saturday morning (really wish we would have made it)…here’s a pic of my bro during it:

we got there in time to meet up with the old man, one of my brother’s friends, my aunt and her friend and went on an 11 mile bike around on the trail next to the Youghiogheny river. (see below)

after getting back, we cooked out, drank way too many beers and played a very awkward game of “Never Have I Ever” note the old man was there. Quote of the night (for us at least) was my brother saying to the “Party Police” (late night campground patrol) “I remeber this old cranky crotchety old man from last year, where the hell is he?” and one of the rangers saying “that would be my dad.”
woke up late, had some campground breakfast and after a 2 hour cluster f*** of disorganization (14 people is tough) we made it to the middle Youghiogheny and set of at about 2:00 for an all day float down the easy part of the river. with my boo steering (and paddling while i was enjoying my beers) we had a great day in the river, finally getting out around 6:30.
quick dinner and hit the road back to VA.
so what did i learn? daily dwayne and his boo LOVE doing things outside. i think for us, it just takes someone else making the plans and us just showing up. or maybe it’s the Northern Virginia plague that keeps us home bound thinking that we have to do this and that around here and can’t sneak away for a bike ride, camp out and a float. i really hope that we keep it up, and hopefully brent (my brother) will keep inviting the yuppies out for the good times in the great outdoors.
Glad you guys had fun, wish we had more than 3 days there, so much to do , so little time. I really think you would like to take your camera sometime and shoot some good outdoorsy photos.
i had my good camera with me…in typical daily dwayne fashion, i never took it out. i wish we had a waterproof camera for the day on the river. will definitely invest in some sort of point and shoot w/ underwater housing if we really get into this paddling thing.
